My Journey to Quit Smoking for a Healthier Life!

Today, I want to start building my plan to quit smoking with you all. You're probably asking yourself why do you want to share your plan with us? To be honest with you, this is apart of my journey to quit smoking. We all need a valid plan to quit smoking, and I want to share my valid plan with you. Smoking is one of the hardest addictions to kick, and having a plan in place can help you quit effectively and it can also help you kick the habit for good. Especially, if you are consistent with your plan to quit smoking or other things.
Being inconsistent with a goal or a plan will end up in failure, so we must be consistent with our plans and goals. This will help us ensure that we are doing what is needed to do with quitting. This is why we need to make goals and a plan towards a smoke free life. There are many PDF templates you can use, that are on the internet, in which you can use to help you plan for a safe quit. Here is my plan and goal to quit smoking. I will be using the PDF named Journey_to_Quit, I like this one because it's detailed, and it has more to offer. I've also used this before, in previous attempts to quit smoking.

My Reasons to Smoke

  1. Stress-related problems like Anxiety, too much on my plate, and trauma-related stress.
  2. I've been smoking for way too long, and it's too hard for me to do.
  3. Many people I know are smokers like friends, and family.
  4. It keeps me calm during unwanted bad situations.
  5. I do it to cope with Mental Health Issues, including an eating disorder.

My Reasons to Quit

  1. I'm tired of getting sick, and having dry skin on my hands.
  2. I'm tired of smelling like ciggarettes.
  3. It would be beneficial to my Mental Health Issues.
  4. It will help me gain weight.
  5. I will feel much better about myself.
  6. My dog Tyberious
  7. Myself

Short Quiz

  • How Soon after you wake up do you smoke your first cigarette?
    • Less then 5 minutes
  • Smoking is not allowed in some places. Is it hard for you to visit these places where you cannot smoke?
    • NO
  • Which Cigarrette do you need the most?
    • The first smoke in the morning
  • How many cigarettes do you smoke?
    • 11-20 in a day
  • Do you smoke more first thing in the morning than during the rest of the day?
    • Yes
  • Do you smoke when you are sick?
    • Yes

Now let's tally these up and find out what my total is. My total is: 7. I am addicted to nicotine. This is why I am using CAMH's 10 week program to help me wuit smoking for good.

My Health Concerns

  • GERD (Heart Burn)
  • Heart attack
  • Asthma
  • Brochitis
  • Dry Skin

The Cost of My Smoking

The Math:

  1. I smoke 7 packs of Cigarettes per week
  2. Each pack is worth $5.00 not including the expensive packs I occasionally buy.
  3. The occasional expensive ones usually range from $14-$16, so I'll go with the most expensive one $16.00.
  4. I usually buy 6 packs per month.
  5. We are going to add the expensive one up first.
  6. The Expensive one costs $96.00 a month and now we are going to multiply this number by 12 months.
  7. $96 x 12 = $1,152 just for the expensive cigarettes
  8. So now if I buy 7 packs of cheap smokes and they cost me $5.00 per day for 7 days.
  9. This comes to $35 dollars per week,
  10. now we are going to multiply this by 52 weeks
  11. 35 x 52 = $1,820 per year but wait we need to add both of the totals together.
  12. $1,152 + $1820 = $2,972
Therefore: My yearly total will be $2,972 that I spend on cigarettes per year. That's way too much money I spend on the addiction itself.

What Could I be doing with the Money?

I could be saving up for something like a brand new laptop, and spending the money on my dog Tyberious. I could also invest the money for later use. Honestly the sky is the limit.

The benefit in quitting!

  1. I will be saving so much money per year.
  2. I will be healthier.
  3. I will be able to run without sounding like a broken car
  4. I wont be smelling like an ash tray.
  5. Whiter teeth

Way's I can deal with stress.

Here are a list of thing that possibly will help to deal with stress especially through the first couple of days.

  1. Meditation
  2. going for a walk with my dog
  3. read a book
  4. listen to a podcast
  5. watch TV.
  6. Do homework
  7. hang out with my dog
  8. talk to a friend

Dealing with Stressful Situations

  • I always have a craving when, I am not being productive and I will go for a walk when this happeneds.
  • I always have a craving when I first wake up, I will have a glass of water when I wake up.
  • I always have a craving when, I drink Coffee in the morning, I will switch to tea in the morning as not to trigger the craving.

I have more, I just wanted to just do three this time.
